What is FoodyFoo?

FoodyFoo is a meal-planning app. You pick recipes for the week, FoodyFoo builds a grocery list from them, and you can send that list to Instacart to order. You can also share your plan with your household, save allergies and diet preferences, and ask the AI assistant for recipe ideas.

Which devices does FoodyFoo work on?

FoodyFoo is an app for iPhone (from the App Store) and Android (from Google Play). There is no web or desktop version at the moment.

Is FoodyFoo free?

Yes. FoodyFoo is free to download. The free version includes recipe search and favorites, your current meal plan, a grocery list built from your plan, with a pantry, Instacart ordering, the AI assistant (10 messages a day), joining a household, and up to 3 of your own recipes (up to 3 can come from link or photo imports). FoodyFoo Pro is an optional subscription: $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year (7-day free trial on the annual plan, for eligible new subscribers). See Pricing for what Pro adds.

How does household sharing work?

A FoodyFoo Pro subscriber can create a household and invite people by link or code. Everyone in the household sees the same meal plan and grocery list. Joining a household is free.

  • Owner: created the household and needs FoodyFoo Pro.
  • Full control: can edit the household meal plan. Up to 2 people can have full control, including the owner.
  • View-only: everyone else. They can see the plan and grocery list and suggest recipes, which the owner or a full-control member approves.

Recipes you add to My Recipes are visible to everyone in your household, with your name shown; only you can edit them. Favorites and subscription info aren't shared.

Each invite is for one person and expires after 7 days. You can revoke an invite at any time. If the owner's Pro ends, the household keeps working for a 14-day grace period, then pauses.

How does ordering with Instacart work?

On the Groceries tab: Untick anything you don't need before sending, then tap Shop with Instacart. FoodyFoo sends the ticked items to Instacart, where you choose products and check out. Instacart handles the order, prices, fees and delivery or pickup, and availability depends on your area. FoodyFoo doesn't add fees. FoodyFoo may earn a commission from Instacart.

The ticked items and your list's title (your meal plan's name) are sent to Instacart, and Instacart's own privacy policy applies.

Can FoodyFoo avoid my food allergies?

You can save allergies in your profile. When you're signed in, recipe search leaves out recipes labeled as containing the allergies you've saved. The allergies recipe search can filter are Dairy, Egg, Fish, Shellfish, Tree Nut, Peanut, Gluten, Soy, Sesame, Mustard, and Sulfite. Grocery list items that may contain one of your saved allergens may be flagged. You can also save Nightshade, but recipe search can't filter it, so check those recipes yourself.

Allergen info comes from recipe data and may be incomplete. Ingredient lists and descriptions in the app may be reformatted by AI, and allergen flags may miss things. Always check the original recipe and product labels. Follow your doctor's advice about your allergies.

Where do the recipes come from?

Recipes in FoodyFoo come from Edamam's recipe database, which links to recipes published by food websites and creators. The recipes are theirs; FoodyFoo may show AI-written summaries and reformatted ingredient lists, and links to the original recipe for the full method. You can also add your own recipes to My Recipes by taking a photo of a recipe, importing one from a link, or typing it in. Scan a product barcode to add a packaged food, with its nutrition, as a recipe.

Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian, and Vegan diets narrow your recommended recipes, and dislikes help filter them.

What can the AI assistant do?

The FoodyFoo assistant is a chat feature that can search recipes, suggest meals based on your saved preferences, and add recipes to your meal plan when you ask. It uses your profile, preferences and meal plans; if you're in a household, it also uses the household plan and every member's combined allergies. It can update your saved preferences when you ask it to. Free accounts get 10 messages a day. It offers recipe ideas and meal inspiration only. It isn't medical or dietary advice.
